This involves opening the modem, removing the ROM chips, and inserting the new chips. The new ZyXEL modems will have flash ROMs to facilitate ROM updates. Users will get a new copy of the ROM images, and run a program in DOS or in MacOS. The new ROM images are sent to the modem, and the new images are "flashed"/ written to the flash ROM chips. This method of ROM updates should be much easier to perform. brentm@zyxel.com (Brent Mosbrook) writes: The [flash] chips are rated at 100,000 flashes..
