You could try http://www.talkway.com - it pretends to be a big virtual
community, with lots of buzzwords, and "friendly" names instead of Usenet
names like alt.fan.harrison-ford (you can choose Usenet names).

I find it slow and annoying myself, and some of the "friendly" names are
incorrect. alt.pub.kacees is labelled as "chat", for example, so we're
getting lots of posts from people who think they're using a chat site. It
reminds me of when AOL started linking to Usenet. :-)
