Actually, I don't use supercedes, but use expires headers that are timed to
expire about a day after the next posting is made (usually in a month, but
I do have one FAQ that I post weekly). The overlap is to take into account
that news propagation is not instant. I started doing this not because of
hipcrime, but because it was easier for me to program my autoposter. Some
servers honor the long expire time, and some don't. If a server honors the
long expiration time and is close to my posting hosts, then I may have two
copies of a FAQ available at once, but it is actually more likely that
there is a gap between postings. Either way, I don't worry about it too
much as the FAQs are also available at their home web sites all the time,
anyway, and nobody has ever complained to me about the short overlap.
