This is specifically addressed in the *.answers submission guidelines.

| 1.4 The guidelines
| [....]
| A. Normal Usenet header lines
| -----------------------------
| [....]
| b. Subject (REQUIRED)
| ---------------------
| [....]
| Your Subject must have the exact same capitalization,
| punctuation, and spacing every time, but a date or version
| number can change, as long as the format stays constant.

This is also specifically addressed in the *.answers post-approval
guidelines.

| Subject: 2. Change a posting's header(s)
| =========================================
|
| 2.1 Subject
|
| Inform news-answers-request@mit.edu of the new Subject line, or
| resubmit the entire posting to news-answers@mit.edu; in either case,
| wait for reapproval before posting, so that we can remove obsolete
| archived copies. (Exception: If all you're changing is the date or
| version number, and it was obvious from your original submission that
| those might change, we've already marked it as a wildcard in our
| records, so there's no need to resubmit it or wait for reapproval.)

Neither guideline specifies how a maintainer can determine how their
Subject line has been processed, i.e., if the moderator who approved
the posting and entered it into the records properly wildcard for date
and version numbers. However, you can get some idea by looking at the
LoPIP [List of Periodic Informational Postings] entry for your
postings. (The entry has asterisks for dates and version numbers in
subject lines. Warning: it also has asterisks for part numbers and
such. However, we have specific guidelines about changing the number
of parts; so just because it's wildcarded in the subject line in the
LoPIP does NOT mean that you can freely change the number of parts
without get prior approval.)
