New user FAQs gone?

A clarification is perhaps in order. Although I am sure that Thomas
Galloway's intentions in this matter are clearly well-intended, the
reason I state that the *.answers moderators would likely simply
cancel his posts is that the guidelines for *.answers were established
for a reason (without which *.answers articles would be a bedlam of
inconsistent confusion), and if we were not to enforce them as
even-handedly as we could, we would rightfully be subjected to a flood
of complaints from FAQ maintainers and readers. [Example: If we were
to give our implicit approval to Thomas Galloway to repost the
news.announce.newusers articles, then what should we do in cases when
someone decides a particular FAQ hasn't been posted often enough, and
starts posting it without consulting the maintainer?]

In any case, several actions have been taken on this already. The
articles have remained available in the news.answers directory on
rtfm.mit.edu all this time under their archive names; in addition, we
have recently made them available again in the news.announce.newusers
directory under their subject names, where people might be more
inclined to look for them in the first place. About a week ago, I had
entered an entry into the *.answers moderator queue to pursue
resolving the issue of these postings not being regularly posted once
and for all, independently of this most recent faq-maintainers thread
which started up almost at the same time, and hopefully we will be
able to force the issue one way or another soon.
