All those worrying about the dire threat of the "newbie invasion" can
relax now. Much as I dislike flamefests, it certainly helped as
motivation to finish the updates that were holding up the newusers
postings :-) Contrary to at least one person's loudly expressed belief,
there's more than five minutes of work in the updates.

Yes, it was a bad mistake on my part to have held up the postings till
the updates happened. My thanks to the news.answers moderation team for
their patience. They (and the people who sent in corrections and
updates) have my apologies for the delay.

I've been around Usenet long enough to not be surprised or dismayed by
the fact that none of the people who're moaning and bitching so loudly on
this list about my (admittedly dismal) delay in posting the FAQs bothered
to send me email, and still have the nerve to say that they don't want to
maintain the FAQs, but are quite willing to post them. Frankly, some of
those people might benefit from reading rather than posting the newusers
FAQs.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I welcome help from volunteers who can
spare some time to enhance and improve the newusers postings. If you'd
like me to turn over the document to you for an edit, I'd be quite happy
to. Send me email (provided you don't expect a reply in under 5 hours,
as Mr. Galloway apparently does). In particular, the Software History
and Sources document needs some reorganization. The entire suite could
benefit from an overall edit -- each document on its own is useful, even
entertaining, but there's some duplication and overlap that could be
trimmed out.

Finally, if you seriously want to take over ownership of some or all of
the postings, send me email and we can discuss that too. I'm not
particularly possessive about them.

Mark.
