-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I recently received the attached piece of unsolicited advertising by
electronic mail.

- From the address it was sent to (ijackson@nyx.cs.du.edu) I conjecture
that my name was gathered from the From: field of the Linux Frequently
Asked Questions with Answers list, which is posted regularly to
comp.os.linux.announce, comp.os.linux.help, comp.answers and
news.answers.

This message is in violation of the Acceptable Use Policies of several
of the networks it traversed to reach me, including the NSFnet and the
Joint Academic Network (JANET.) Note that it is advertising what it
claims is a "free journal", ie a promotional vehicle for the company
in question.

Please immediately:
1. Instruct the user in question that this is not an acceptable use
of USENET and electronic mail.
2. Apologise to any other recipients of similar messages.
3. Ensure that noone at your site or any site you supply
connectivity to commits similar breaches in the future.
4. Apologise to me.

I'm writing to what appear to be your service providers as well as
yourself; please note that this kind of thing is totally unacceptable
and will not be tolerated. I shall do everything in my power to
prevent you from doing it again, or being able to do so.

I'm also CC'ing this to the postmaster at the account where I received
the message, the moderators of comp.os.linux.announce, and the
faq-maintainers mailing list.

Furthermore, please note that the mail system at delta.nis.com is
misconfigured. The Message-ID of the enclosed email is invalid.

Ian Jackson.

Subject: FREE UNIX Newsletter -- Would you like to subscribe?

Hello!

I saw your name in a USENET posting and thought that you may be
interested in new UNIX software technologies.

My company publishes UNIX-based software for project management,
sharing X Window Applications as Groupware and OPEN LOOK to Motif
conversion tools, etc.

We sponsor a free, monthly electronic newsletter called ACCENTServer
which features useful information of general interest to the UNIX
community. Sometimes we mention one of our products to help justify
the cost of publishing. Receiving it is the only cost to you.

If you are interested in joining the ACCENTServer list, please
reply with your surface mailing address and your telephone, fax,
etc. if you wouldn't mind.

For your trouble we'll e-mail you the latest copy of a list of
internet services, a very useful document. (This document is also
available in news.answers on USENET if you only want the list.)

If you are NOT interested, you don't have to reply. I will only
add you to the list if I hear from you -- it is NOT my intention
to invade your privacy.

Thank you for your time. Would you like to join?

Best regards,

Dave Wagner
