Why did you send this to faq-maintainers?
I did hear a rumor that FSFNET and BARRNET have relaxed their
policies regarding business transactions over the net.
Nonetheless, direct advertising over the net should be discouraged.
For those who don't agree with Ian, please consider:
o comp.newprod exists for this very thing;
o e-mail is cheap and easy: if the 10s-100s of thousands of
companies on the net decided to send direct advertising to each and
every one of us on the net (millions), imagine the effect on the net
and your mailbox.
o a large fraction of people on the net actually pay on a per
message basis and don't appreciate paying for something they don't want.
