Ian, I have no idea why you are sending this to me. I have absolutely
nothing to do with this. My username is not connected with it, as far as
I can tell from reading the message you enclosed. So why are you
complaining to me and my postmaster?

I am not DAVE@netcom.com. Till I just did a finger, I had no idea who was
(Netcom has over 25,000 users). Here is the result of my finger:

{netcom12:2} finger -m dave
Login name: dave In real life: David A. Lee
Directory: /u1/dave Shell: /bin/ksh
Last login Wed Jun 8 20:10 on ttyt1 from NETCOM-sc1.netcom,com
No unread mail
No Plan.

Looks to me like someone named David A. Lee, a far cry from my name.
Also, the user logs in from (I think) the South Carolina POP (sc1), pretty
far from Los Angeles as far as I can tell.

Could you not have done a finger search yourself to find out who sent the
message, rather than accusing me of it, with no basis as far as I can
tell? Where did you make the connection that 'DAVE@netcom.com' is
'dgardner@netcom.com'? Exactly what are you trying to do and say here?

I do not know very much about Unix and mail paths, but from what little I
do know, this might be a forged message, but it sure didn't come even
remotely from me. The path shows 'DAVE@netcom.com' as the originator,
and this is not me.

Look, I know you're upset because you've feel you've been solicited with
advertising without your permission, but this doesn't mean you should be
scattershotting accusations about me to my postmaster (and to other
systems' postmasters too) with absolutey no grounds for doing so. I
consider this pretty reckless.

I don't care about apologies. I'd just like you to justify your actions
with facts if you have them, or retract your accusations via email to my
postmaster (with a copy to me, so I can be sure that it's been done).
Do the right thing and set the record straight.
