Pointer postings are an excellent idea, particularly if the group is very
busy and/or the FAQ is very large.

However, if you post your FAQ to *.answers already we are unlikely to accept
the pointer postings for *.answers as well. There's no reason you shouldn't
post the main FAQ to *.answers and a selection of groups, then post pointer
articles in other groups.
