They do at least claim that they plan to revive the older archives. See
letter below. I too remain skeptical.

I certainly agree. Many of us dropped ideas for other archives just at
a point when we could conceivably have archived "our" newsgroups
ourselves, because we thought DejaNews would do it for us, better, and
perhaps even with competitors. In part, we didn't realize what a
steamroller the WWW would become, and how much visibility Usenet would
lose in the process. If the Deja database dies, many newsgroups will be
left with no reasonable archive at all.

Go to the Power Search page at http://www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml. In
the Enter Keywords box, put

   ("larry virden" | lvirden@cas.org) &! ~a lvirden@cas.org

Leave the remaining boxes blank. From Apple II to TCL, huh?

I agree, it's hard to get from here to there. The search language help
page at http://www.deja.com/help/discussions/help_lang.epl helps, but
it's hard to find -- no longer any link from the Power Search page!
Took me a while to find it.

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Deja.Com Customer Support.

At this point, we have no definite time frame as to when the full
archives
will be available again. We are currently attempting to reconfigure the
service that provides messages posted prior to June, 1999. Therefore,
these
messages will not be accessible on the site for some time, possibly
several
months. Have no fear: We're committed to bringing these messages back
online as soon as possible. We request your patience as moving and
upgrading our server bed to a new facility will greatly increase our
reliability and performance.

Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any further
questions,
and thanks for using Deja.com!
