In my response to Mr Wines, I did point out that he would find a wide
variety of attitudes on the matter -- that some would agree readily and
others would be offended by his assumption that he would have their
permission, and worse. (We've been through this here before, and I hope
that we have agreed to disagree. We have varying goals and motives for
doing this.)

To me, updating is the key. OK, he says he'll update. But that means
he'll update HIS SITE, and will do so if YOU SEND HIM the updates. He
cannot update those who have already downloaded his collection, and
apparently does not plan to set up automatic updates from rtfm.mit.edu
or from faqs.org.

I agree that there is value in wide distribution. I also know that some
people cannot easily read material on the web -- though this doesn't
seem to be a good argument in Wines' case, since he plans to distribute
his EM via the web. If he had a program designed to get his collections
in the hands of people who have no ready Web access, I'd feel a bit
different. As it is, I'd rather he publish an annotated collection of
URLs.
