This topic has been generating quite a bit of traffic so I thought I'd pitch
in with my 2d worth. I maintain the comp.sys.acorn.games FAQ as an HTML file
<http://www.therealm.freeserve.co.uk/computing/acorn/faq.games.html> which I
then pass through a Perl script (HTML2Text) which I wrote myself. It's not
perfect but it does the job well enough and it has some nice features like
pulling the version number and date out of suitably SPANed text in the HTML
and placing them in the header block. Hyper links are dealt with in line so
the URL appers in square brackets after the text which was anchored.
The reason I decided to go down the HTML->text route rather than the
text->HTML is that you are effectively loosing information when you convert
from HTML to text. Thus it is not possible to infer that information on the
return journey.
If anyone's interested they are welcome to a copy of HTML2Text.
