It was not accepted, probably because the UPDATE command was the wrong
format (see below). I don't see any reason why you didn't get a
rejection notice: we didn't get any unusual error reports or bounces
either.
I see that you haven't updated your FAQ at the faq-server in quite
some time. Might you or your ISP have installed some sort of
spam-blocking that's filtering out the faq-server's automated replies?

The FTP archives and the files held by the faq-server for posting are
entirely separate. Files in the FTP archives are always updated
directly from the news feed, whether they were posted by the
faq-server or any other way. Updated FAQs won't appear in the public
archives until they've been posted. When the faq-server is responding
promptly, you can find out your posting's status with the STATUS
command. (Of course, when it's responding properly, you should get a
confirmation or rejection notice for each UPDATE anyway.)
> I did the proper "UPDATE password directory" command string
The UPDATE command with an Archive-name is only used when you're
changing Archive-names. For a regular update, use "UPDATE password".
The faq-server will find the name in the auxiliary headers of the
posting you're submitting.
