I've always understood that English is the common language in the
Big-8, subject to the following exceptions:
1. Soc.culture.* groups based on a particular language or culture;
2. Posts of interest only to people in a particular country or speaking
a particular language (e.g., the Linux French How-To). Even then, it's
preferable to post a short English explanation of what the document is.
3. A group's charter may specify that posts may be in another
language -- but as I understand it, English is always acceptable; it
can't be prohibited.
Now, that doesn't mean that you have to complain every time someone
posts in another language. I certainly wouldn't object if someone posts
in both English and another language, or even if someone posts in
another language with an English summary.
However, if your FAQ states that posts should be in English, then I
think it's correct.
