All it takes is knowing the right header to add (in addition to the
control header), and probably knowledge of how to avoid the local
server's permissions for control messages. Not terribly difficult.

Some sites may choose to ignore some cancel messages, or even all of
them. I think that's why folks are checking the cancel messages themselves
rather than just checking for the articles in question in the news
spool.
