Yes, Virginia, there is a FAQ for cancel messages. I believe the
essential facts have been mentioned already by John but this is a good
FAQ to have for reference -- when I complain about off-topic posts
(secret hobby of mine, never mind :-) I always include the URL so the
offender gets a chance to find out how clean up after him- or herself.

(Incidentally, many sysadmins will tell you that a spammer has been
"dealt with" when they have booted the offender off their system ...
yet the off-topic messages still linger in the newsgroups until they
expire or some friendly vigilante canceller [sorry, Chris :-] cancels
them.

about it. The only problem is that there should be more people like
