Yes, they did, unfortunately. I was checking the control messages to see
if any of my news.groups stuff had been canceled, and then saw a few
news.answers cancels. Lots of dog-faq posts. And then mine. Ack. But I
figured I could wait until they were posted again-- they're on weekly
posting right now.

Nope! Well, the sysadmins have to enable the cancels... but that's about
it, really.

Not necessarily. the person may have heard that some FAQs had gotten
canceled, perhaps they expired early on his server, and was concerned
enough to drop you a "look into this?" note.
