Martin Leese - OMG <mleese@omg.unb.ca> :
% The problem is that of control. If people take copies of your FAQ
% and add them to their own server, the odds are they will not bother to
% keep them up-to-date. How serious this is depends on the FAQ, medical
% FAQs being an obvious example of how out-of-date information can be
% dangerous.
Elliotte Rusty Harold <elharo@shock.njit.edu> :
% Biggest problem: The mirrored copy is never updated as quickly as the
% official version. In my most recent rogue FAQ hunt I found one copy over a
% year old. There are other problems, but that's the worst.
If the "official" faq is on the web or available via ftp, it would be
simpler to put at the very beginning of the file the date of that version
and the URLs for the officially mirrored copies. This way, it is the
user who can check for herself whether the copy is old.
As usual, just my 50 Lit.
