It sounds like she's having problems totally unrelated to the net. Not
much you can do about that, except talk to her as a friend and offer your
support. Do people on the newsgroup seem upset about her change in
attitude? If so, maybe you could try to "head her off at the pass" by
responding to their questions first, or at least try to smooth things
over when she does become rude. I know that's not exactly the most
convenient thing in the world, but it's the only thing I can think of.
