What about the large DejaNews web site? They keep *all* articles and an
easy-to-use search engine for searching them. You can limit your search
to author or newsgroup, and you'd then be able to find the offensive
articles there as well. The folks at DejaNews didn't get permission from
each & every poster to USENET (obviously), but then they are a company
using their own server (whereas the person with the web site is using
their school's).
Did the abuser copyright his posts? Did the posts include text saying they
weren't to be redistributed? If so, he does have the right to demand that
you pull his posts (eg: if the web maintainer was archiving clari.*
newsgroups, he'd have to pull them).

p/s - this text is all IMO; i'm not a lawyer; it may be redistributed
anywhere; DejaNews is at: http://www.dejanews.com/ - there - covered my
butt. :)
