-somewhere back in time, someone asked "How did you get into [maintaining
a (FAQ for a newsgroup)]"--

I maintain the FAQ for alt.support.dissociation.

Well, you know how sometimes there's only one or two regular posters on a
group who end up fielding the same questions (often via e-mail in the
case of the group I was on, alt.sexual.abuse.recovery) over and over?

So...I took some of the more common questions and made a mini-FAQ. At
this time, the group didn't even exist; alt.support.dissociation came
about as an offshoot of ASAR, because of the number of people on the
group who wanted to discuss issues surrounding being multiple. The
original mini-FAQ, which was on multiple personalities, became the core
of the FAQ for the group, which I suggested in alt.config and someone
was nice enough to create (at my posted request).

Since I was group proponent and already was known for the mini-FAQ (which
I didn't post regularly or anything, just when I remembered), taking the
job of being FAQ maintainer for hte new group just kind of made sense.
I also got a co-author for the mini-FAQ somewhere along the line.

---somewhere else in this thread (or somewhere), someone asked something
that basically boiled down to "Has the FAQ been useful to you
professionally?"

Well, no. I'm a computer geek by profession (actually right this very
instant I'm an unemployed computer geek). But since I want to some day
return to college, I -am- going to try to use the FAQ and some associated
things to show my knowledge in a specific area, and try to test out of
some of the required classes ;)
