On the surface, the above argument seems reasonable (I suppose for those who do
not have NetNews it is *very reasonable*); however, there are ways around it.

We have the same problem in our newsgroup (sci.chem.electrochem), so we have
both the newsgroup and a parallel mailing list. In a rather low-tech fashion, I
serve as a human mirror between the two, but I was told there are softwares
available to do that automatically. I do not know how many people use our
newsgroup, but we have over 100 subscribers to the mailing list, so apparently
it is needed. Could something similar be arranged for faq-maintainers?
