I don't know why, but I would actually preferr it to stay as a mailing list.
Reason? The signal to noise ratio. At the moment it's very low, but with a
newsgroup it would unfortunately get higher, since people that are not actually
maintaining a FAQ would start posting there.

As it is now, most people will not even hear about the mailing list until they
think about making a FAQ submission. This means that we only have 'serious'
subscribers, and a very high signal to noise ratio.
