I might add that I too use LaTeX2HTML, but with just a bit of tweaking
of your .latex2html-init file (which controls many of the options with
LaTeX2HTML), you can easily produce ASCII. I do this as follows: I set
it up so that everything is on one page ($MAX_SPLIT_DEPTH = 0), section
numbers are used in titles ($SHOW_SECTION_NUMBERS=1), and no navigation
panels ($NO_NAVIGATION=1) (also do $AUTO_NAVIGATION=0 for good measure,
to be sure no panels end up at the bottom). Then, I take the result
through lynx -dump, and I've got nice ASCII. The only thing I've had to
hand edit was the spacing between sections -- about a 20 minute job with
my ~170 sections. In a few places, the item marker for a list item was
seperated from the item, so I had to touch that up as well. All in all,
it is quite painless.
Let me put in another plug for LaTeX2HTML. I find it quite easy to use
and feature rich (like Motif style buttons).
