What I thought Thomas wrote, and what he presumably meant, are not exactly
the same thing.
The full pathname of each file in the RTFM archives, with each element
trimmed down to 14 characters, is, or should be, unique. However,
identical elements *are* reproduced in multiple places; for example,
there are at least 40 files, and a good handful of directories, with
the three-letter name 'faq'.
The side of the archive tree where files are stored under their article
titles are a bit more problematical; many valid and meaningful Subject:
lines aren't designed to be unique in 14 characters. For example:
rtfm> pwd
~ftp/pub/usenet-by-hierarchy/comp/lang/misc
rtfm> ls | grep of4
Catalog_of_compilers,_interpreters,_and_other_language_tools_[p1of4]
Catalog_of_compilers,_interpreters,_and_other_language_tools_[p2of4]
Catalog_of_compilers,_interpreters,_and_other_language_tools_[p3of4]
Catalog_of_compilers,_interpreters,_and_other_language_tools_[p4of4]
I don't have any constructive suggestions as to what to *do* about
this; I just wanted to make sure everyone had the same ideas as
to what the problem *was*.
