We own a 2000 Tundra and pull a 5th wheel trailer which is 26 feet long; therefore, we are concerned about overheating of the transmission fluid and oil.

Has anyone heard of a successful attempt at putting in an aftermarket transmission temperature gauge and an oil temperature gauge?  If so, what company produced them?  How do you go about installing them?

Responses are respectfully requested.  Please send comments to

Thanks

YES, YOU ARE GET BOTH OF THOSE GAUGES FROM WWW.JEGS.COM.COM. THEY ARE AUTO METER GAUGES. AND ALL YOU ARE REALLY LOOKING AT IS THE THREE WIRES. 1 THE SIGNAL WIRE WHICH ACTIVATES THE NEEDLE IN THE GAUGE AND THE TWO MORE WIRES A POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE WHICH YOU CAN RUN STRAIGHT TO THE BATTERY.  I WOULD SUGGEST PUTTING AN IN-LINE FUSE ON THE POSITIVE WIRE TO THE BATTERY. I DID NO DO THAT BECAUSE I WIRED THEM THROUGH THE POWER ON MY STEREO WHICH IS ALREADY RAN TO A FUSE. ALSO EASY TO DO.
THANKS

The load exerted on the engine of your Toyota cannot be undone by changing the temperature gauges of oil or transmission.  The reason why they would overheat is due to the strain on the transmission gears and engine load.  Simply put if your Tundra is not rated to pull your fifth wheel it won't ever do it as a stock vehicle.  Just because you change the temp gauges doesn't mean it won't over heat.  The gauge will display an incorrect temperature reading and the engine and transmission will still overheat despite what the gauges read.
