Do puppies have any other colors on them except brown, black or yellow?  We were told that this lady had lab puppies.  Each puppy had a spot of white on its chest.  This isn't normal is it?  Thank you.

Labs only come in solid colors, they may have different pigments however. Keep in mind though that a yellow lab may have shading that looks white or a light yellow but a black or chocolate full bred lab should not have any white or any other color besides different shades of black or chocolate! It sounds as though the lady you speak of did not have full bred puppies!

I am not so certain that this is true. One famous picture shows a dog by the name of Buccleuch Avon, born in 1885, who sired chocolate puppies, yet had a distinctive white nose and a white spot on her chest.(www.blueknightlabs.com/articles/silver/silver.html . Considering how genetics can play so many tricks through breeding: birth defects, mutations, albinism to name a few; why would it be out of the question for a full blooded dog to produce an odd-colored puppy. Fully registered breeders may be able to counter my argument, but who is to say that they do not cull the pups who show up with such markings, particularly if there are rules they must abide by to make a profit. Just remember, anything is possible.

Yes, Labrador pups can have a white marking on their chest. Read this and it explains the colors of the Labrador Retrievers. http://www.ashlandlabradors.net/Labradorcolor.html

A little white spot on the chest is normal, but if all the dogs has it I'mnot shore about that. But if the spot is at severals places, this is not a pure lab.

YES. THERE ARE ODD MARKED LABS THAT ARE FULL BLOODED. GO TO WWW.WOODHAVENLABS.COM OR PUT IN THE SEARCH WINDOW-PICTUREA OF ODD COLORED LABRADORS. I THINK THE ODD COLORED LABS ARE PRETTYER THAN THE NORMAL ONES!!

Breed Standards vary from one Country to another but the only colors that are acceptable are black, yellow or chocolate but a small white spot on the chest is permissible.  If there are spots or other colors take this as a strong indication that the animal is not actually a pure bred.  Vets are of experts in treating the health of an animal but few have any knowledge about the breed standards. You could refer to http://www.doindogs.com/breed_standard.shtml

one or 2 small spots of a different color than the standard on a lab is not unusual. if they all have several markings, then the lady is scamming you. your best bet is to talk to a vet about it. but to me, it sounds like shes a fake.

Oh and the males litter had 2 white 1 yellow in his litter and neither of his parents were yellow. Please answer my dogs bred and i really would like to know what colors come from the breeding.

My lab had puppies two days ago.  She had six, however two have a white mark on their chest.  I have them both papered, so the answer is yes purebred labs can have a white spot on the chest.

in my experience, there are sometimes one or two in a litter with a white star on thier chest. These pups usually turn out to be the best of the lot. Smarter, bigger etc...

I think that if a lab has a white spot on it, it is still considered pure bred, but they can't be used for shows because the spot goes against the guidelines that are set for labs.

YES, THEY CAN HAVE SMALL WHILE SPOTS ON THE CHEST, TIPS OF FEET, AND TIP OF TAIL. I JUST BRED MY CHOC. LAB TO A BLACK LAB. AND SHE THREW EIGHT BLACK PUPS SIX WITH WHITE FEET AND ONE IN THE CHEST AREA AS WELL. BOTH THE SIRE AND DAM ARE REGISTERED AND WHERE PENNED UP TOGETHER SO NO OTHER DOG COULD GET TO HER. IT IS PERMISSABLE TO HAVE SMALL WHITE SPOTS.

"A small white spot is permissable but not desireable"
From the AKC standard of the labrador

The puppies are purebred but if EVERY puppy has a white spot, the lady is a back-yard breeder. NEVER buy pups from BYB!! Expect to pay $800-$1000+ for a well bred puppy of ANY breed. Check the AKC's breeder's list or the LRC's breeder list for reponsible breeders.

As a lab breeder, it is completely normal for purebred lab puppies to be born with colour casting on their chests.  It isn't well known because breeders often destroy animals that aren't to breed standard so such colour markings should not be taken to indicated mixed breeding. Hope that was helpful

From personal experience....the ladies not scamming you...I had a beautiful lab bred to another beautiful lab....the sire was an amazing dog with a very high stud fee...I had five pups born with white on them and one had a huge white chest and white on it's head and feet.  I looked some things up on the internet....before I became to upset.  Look at this website http://personal.pitnet.net/ldoll/labrador%20Retriever%20history.htm   It tells about Labrador breeding stock in England in the 1800's having white muzzles and feet ...it shows pictures.  English lines are much sought after in Labradors today.  The only thing that aggravates me is the sires owner knew he had puppies with white spots and didn't tell me ...I wouldn't have used him had I known.  Small white spots are acceptable in the AKC breed standard and I guess if your not showing it's all acceptable.  They are still registered Labradors ...just very unique.
