1991 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Litre. I replace brake...

1991 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Litre.  I replace brake lights, tail lights go, put in tail lights, brake lights go...it is not the fuse....am stumped.  Also the thermostat.  Replace it , drive two blocks theromstat goes to red zone within that time frame?  Anyone else have problem with over heating?
