I have a 1994 4Runner, V6, 3.0L, EFI, stock.  I would like to know what the cold-start-switch does, and how to diagnosis it.  Can the Cold Start Injector be cleaned, same as regular fuel injectors?  I am getting engine light on with diagnostic code of 'too-rich running.'  I've put in rebuilt/professionally cleaned fuel injectors, oxy-sensor, engine coolant sensor, adjusted the throttle position sensor, checked the intake air sensor to spec, checked the volume air flow meter to spec, and the engine is still not running smooth.  It used to 'surge' badly at idle until I went through all of the above, and it still surges a little when accelerating (not at idle).  I have had to advance the timing to about 20 degrees BTDC to make it run in an acceptable manner (idles at ~750-800 RPM), but it has a strong smell coming out of the exhaust, like it is not getting the correct air-fuel mixture through the system (foul smelling, but not egg-like).  I am thinking about replacing the cold start switch, but want to get the cold start injector cleaned/rebuilt first - hence the original question at the beginning of this book.  Anyone have any experience with this problem before?
