How do I stop my lab growling at night?  My yellow lab is 1 year 9 months old.  He's a sweet and loving dog except for at night.  He growls at our other dog (3 1/2 yr old Basset Hound) when he's eating.  And I understand he's guarding his food, so we feed them in separate rooms.  But at night he growls even more.  We have 2 separate dog beds for our dogs, but they don't always sleep on them.  Our yellow lab likes to sleep at the end of the bed.  We repeatedly tell him to get off, but he sneaks up while we're sleeping.  If we move our feet during the night he growls.  And he growls if our other dog comes in the room.  I know he shouldn't sleep on the bed, and that is a problem we've been working on.  If we lock him out of our room he just scratches at the door.  And I don't want to put him in his crate because he's in it while I'm at work during the day.  I'm worried that one of these times he's going to bite us.  He growls and shows his teeth.  We try to yell/talk over his growl to show him that's not acceptable.  What's the best way to stop the growling?  And is his growling normal?  Our Basset Hound growls during play and doesn't care if you wake him up or move him while he's sleeping.
