i have 94 VW transporter 2.4 diesel,last week the battery...

i have 94 VW transporter 2.4 diesel,last week the battery light came on and battery has drained and van now wont hold a charge, i have had the alternator tested and battery and they are fine,someone suggested it might be a relay??? any ideas on this prob, and or where is the relay and how can it be fixed
