Are beagles good with cats? I want to get a beagle puppy but...

Are beagles good with cats? I want to get a beagle puppy but I have a 5 yr old cat and I want to make sure I'm not going to get a dog that is going to torture my cat. I was thinking about a siberain husky also but I've been told they will hunt and kill cats. If beagles aren't recommended for cats can anyone tell me what breeds of dog are good with cats? (and are good with children also)
