The best and easiest way to potty train any pooch is to crate train.  If you do not crate train, keep him confined to smaller places.  Dogs are den animals and are typically clean not wanting to be near a mess.  However, if they can go potty and get away from it they will.  It takes a while for a new dog to realize that the whole house is his den and needs to stay clean.  This is what I did for my pup.  First, keep his feeding on a schedule as much as possible.  Second, feed him and water him.  Take him out to a specific potty area.  Tell him to go potty.  This is not a time to play or roam.  You are there to do one thing and that is to go potty.  If he doesn't go potty, take him back inside and contain him to his crate or other area.  In about 15 minutes go back outside and do the potty drill.  This is a time consuming process.  But if puppy doesn't go potty, he doesn't get to hang out with the family.  For the most part until the pup is older he should be contained to a relatively small area which can increase as he gets the idea.  If you move him from the crate to the kitchen and he goes potty, the space is too big.  Remember there are times to go out and play and there are times to go out and potty.  You have to treat them separate so he will know that he is there to do his business.  Good Luck!

I personaly did not have much trouble potty training my mastiff. but this is a different case.My advice is to buy this short book @petsmart called "potty training is impossable" DO NOT stick his face in it.This will make him want to eat it. This will cause serious health issues.DO NOT use potty training pads. Your trying to teach him to go outside, not in the house.correct him,use the word "no!" when he goes to the bathroom outside praise him.Mastiffs love
your attention.Good Luck!!!

The fist thing is explain to your mastiff is where to go and where not to go to the bathroom.  When they go where they are supposed to, praise them, give treats or more time with you.  When they do wrong tell them sternly NO! And walk away.  Don't give them a lot of attention.  But they can and probably will get depressed and  feel left out if you totally leave them out for the rest of the night or day or what ever.   Best OF LUCK!!!!

i just don't know what to do anymore....ive tried everything. I take him to the bathroom outside on a daily routine.I have him in a kennel alot but if i take him out he decides to go pee in the house.he used to go poop in the house but now he doesn't its just constant pee everywhere. mostly when i just come to pet him he gets excited and just starts peeing and he will just walk right by me and just start to pee.when he pees he does little sprinkles at a time inside the house but outside he will let it all out and come back in the house and pee. I bought a brand new carpet that I want to put on the floor but instead its in my basement because i don't want to put it down till he gets potty trained!....He is an Italian Mastiff,Cane Corso. His name is Onyx someone PLEASE help me.

You should not scold the puppy if it doesn't goes to the toilet. It should take a while for the puppy to get use to going to the right place to do 'his buisness'. Take a treat with you when you are taking your puppy or dog to the toilet. As soon as you see your dog or your puppy's nose touch the ground or sniffing around, take him to his potty spot. GOOD LUCK!!

well I have been around dogs for the last 17 years of my life and for time to come. i found out the easter way to potty train you do is to by a large crate and keep him in it until he get about 6mouths to a year old because his bladder gets stronger. take him out and play with him. fed him and water him out side and not in side.

Good Luck
