I work five days a week and would be gone for eight hours each of those days. I also live in a good sized one bed room apartment. I don't want to leave the dog home alone for that long but don't have a choice. Plus I don't want to be unfair to the dog. Any suggestions.

Please, please, please: DON'T GET A DOG.
~It will sleep the eight hours away and then drive you nuts when it can't sleep at night.
~ It will get bored and chew everything in sight.
~ It will grow wary of you: the neglecting, cruel one who never pays any attention to it.
~It will whine and howl while your gone, driving your neighbors CRAZY.
That's not what you want, is it?  I didn't think so. You want a furry ball of unconditional love, friendship, and companionship that will cuddle up with you in front of the fire place on a cold day, or play fetch with you until it drops in the gorgeous days of summer sun. I can garantee you: THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU'LL GET.
