If your dog is not spaded, get another female. If you get a male there might be more dominant scuffles than with a female. But, I think it's fun to have two different genders so you get a "taste" of both. It's up to you.

We have a female dog and wanted to get another dog, we went to the humane society so that she could meet the dogs, we found that she was more aggressive towards the female dogs, or the male dogs who were bigger than her.
In the end we ended up getting another two male dogs, who when we got them were puppies and smaller than her, now that they are 50 pounds more than her, she still runs the show.
I would suggest that if you are getting another dog that before you bring it home ask if you can bring your dog to introduce them.
We found that that was the best way cause every dog is different.
