I have a 8 week old labrador who crys all night if I put him in his cage. Are there any suggestions of what to do for him to stop yelping so much.

Yes, leave him in the kennel until he gets used to it. Others may tell you otherwise but he needs to learn that you won't give into his whining. If you ever do give in and let him out, then he controls you and learns to manipulate you into doing whatever he wishes! It is imparitive to his future training that he doesn't learn that. If he learns now, while young, that he can't get away with whining, then you will have half the battle won. It may take weeks to get him to be quiet but it will save you years of hardship in the future. Just be patient and remember that you're making it easier for him too. He will have to be in that pen in the future so it will make it alot easier for both of you. Good luck! Tanisha

Leaving a 8 wee old puppy in a crate to cry all night is not the answer. They cry because they are not comfortable were they are yet. Keeping a puppy in a crate to cry turns into a negative situation. The crate is supposed to be a safe haven for your puppy/dog, if you make it a negative in the beginning he will resist forever. If you are leaving the house and the crate is a must, then he must stay but if you are home or sleeping it takes repeated consoling. Try putting a ticking clock wrapped in a blanket with a few stuffed animals his size. If that doesnt work leave the clock in but replace the animals with a hot water bottle. Time will stop the yelping, but with some comforting from you

I bought my pedigree black lab at 6 weeks old and he did the same thing. Try to put a a radio with soft music. He/ she misses his/her mommie...that is what we did but still not fool proof. My lab is now 13 years and still healthy and beautiful.  They need attention and its hard because we all have carers. It gets better when they get older. But, do go to dog school(cheap in town) it helps ...i will just say my lab did not graduate..they are loving but difficult because they want to love you soooomuch and please you.  Unfortunatly, they do not understand it makes us crazy. But guess what? i wouldn't have it any other way...Good luck!

the answer is simple dont put him in a cage and he wont cry it isnt natural for a dog to be kept in this way, let alone morally right.

i love labs they are the best thing that will ever happen to me and Kim getting one very soon and Tim the Me that is going to be looking  after it. It is Gigi to be a inside dog and it wont go outside unless we are going outside to do stuff like play with it,take it for walks i think that we will take good care of a lab.

It would be best to have two labs, and they do not mind going in the kennel together.  Two is better than one.

Mine use to cry all the time, all night long. It's hard, and heartbreaking. I promise you leave them alone, in about 4-6 weeks they wont be crying. Good luck!
