I do not really know why friends in the past forbid dancing, but it is not so today at least not among all Friends. I know many friends who take part in folk dancing. It is not certainly not forbidden in the Bible, so why early friends took exception to it I do not know, only that Quakerism did arrive at time when Puritan attitudes were common among many Christians.
