it isn't always 6 mnts from anything. my dogs first heat was age 8 mnts old. and she had pups from that heat. an accident but everything was fine. and right this minuete i am waiting on her 2nd litter to be born any time. and this heat was 9 months after she gave birth before. my friends dog went for a year in between heats and then 6 months and then 9 mnts. so it varies with dachshunds.

I was wondering about this also. We have a Boxer that had puppies when we got her, they are about 3-4 months old now, and our female is bleeding just a little bit off and on, but has no swelling or interest in breeding.
