My beagle DOES NOT chew alot, but is very greedy with his  toys( all the dogs toy's are his he thinks) He takes them all away from my 2 german shepherds and will not share at all. As far as chewing he does so only on things he is allowed too, and most will respond that way if given the right things to chew on and encouraged to only chew those things. Good luck if you get a beagle, they are very active and great dogs. One more tip, they bark/bay ALOT...............if you will teach them to bark on command.............then it is much easier to make them stay quite when you need them too. Good luck

give your beagle a bagle.  they are super chewy.  After he eats it, his jaw will hurt and he wont want to chew anymore that day.  Then give him another one the next day.

hi!
its not that beagles chew a lot, ita just that beagles are stubborn! verrrrrrry stuborn! your beagle might chew constently while someoneelses refuses to walk on a leash!:) my aunts dog refuses to walk in the house forwards! pretty funny! haha she only walks backward! no training,at all!!

i hope this helps, their personalities make up for any chewing, give her/him a beagle,or rawhid to chew on!(check on the raw hide thig though)

We just got a Beagle- Black Lab mix.  He is 17 weeks old, and to help with the chewing we puppy proof the house on a continuous basis.  When we have to leave him alone for a longer period of time we give him rawhide's and a bull penis.  It's dried and usually braided.  It sounds really gross but he loves it so much that when he has one it's even hard to get him to play with us.  An additional bonus is that their easier to digest then the rawhide's.  I think it also helps that we don't let him have the run of the house.  He usually stays in his crate or in the bedroom when we're gone for longer than an hour.  It does take training but don't despair they can be lots of fun.  and anytime you see her chewing on something she's not supposed to DON'T yell at her.  Just try to distract her with something she is allowed to chew on,  squeaky toys work for that.  Good Luck and have fun!
p.s. check out the dog training books by the Monks Of New Skete, their awesome and these guys really know what their talking about.

Depending on how old your beagle is crate training at an early age is great.  When you need to leave the house you can place them in the crate till you get home and not worry about having anything destroyed as well as teaching them to wait to go to the bathroom till you get home to walk them.  It has worked great for my 9month old beagle and he has lots of toys to chew on as well as bully sticks once in awhile.  We're getting our second this weekend 11month old girl....just be ready to walk them and get a lot of exercise yourself while u do.  good luck

I have a beagle and he is soooo great.  He is taught to not bay/bark/howl so he doesn't make a sound at all.  He only chews on his toys or bones, and only when he wants to play.  He has never chewed on a shoe before.  You just need to make sure you have time to train them and they will listen.  They are real owner pleasers, and don't want to disappoint you.  They are very smart, so they will listen if you have the time.  However, they become stubborn when they are bored.

I have a beagle which i'vehad for almost 3 months. In the beginning she would chew everything we gave her. That's until we found the kong ball and thew giggler toy.We also found a bone called the Gallileo and it's made for powerful chewers. She totally dislikes it but plays with it from time to time. Now she doesn't chew on things too much.We.ve learned that tobasco sauce can actually keep the dog from chewing on things.

How old is your beagle?  Might just be puppy stuff, not necessarily the breed. My beagle is 6 and not really a big chewer. just occassionaly.  I would make sure all dangerous and important items are removed (just like having a two year old child)and supply dog (safe)chew toys.  Lots of walks, activity and attention as much as possible. Reprimand when you are there and catch him/her in the act.

My beagle chews on everything you can imagine. He gets into the trash, eats anything he can find on the floor inside, and outside. I am still trying to find ways to stop him.

They do ALOT as puppies, but they grow out of most of it as they get older.. also with good training. They like to chew on things with the scent of the master. Socks, shoes, t-shirts.. ect. You really have to doggy proof the house when you're not around, or just keep it in a kennel when you are not home. Our Beagle chews on random things time to time, but she has really grown out of it for the most part. But we have to keep her in a kennel when we leave the house.

I just adopted a 2 year old beagle.  Loveable, but he CHEWS EVERYTHING.  I give him rawhide and toys which he likes a lot, but if he walks around and something else catches his eye, he chews that!  Like corner of the wall to wall carpet!  Help!  I have put things up out of his reach, but he also is a high jumper and has found things.  But the carpet is the thing that worries me the most.

Thanks

Tell your beagle what it should chew on, then discourage it if it chews on anything else. If it does, simply take it away from it.  Tell it that it is a good dog if it does something that you want it to. That is what I did with my beagle and it worked really good.
Good luck with training your beagle!

Hello,

Beagle should never be left alone in a house, unless you train them.  They will chew anything and everything.  I currently have a Beagle and he chews everything from his crate to the wall, when he is left by himself.

I have 4 beagles and currently babysitting for my granddog who is also a beagle. 3 chew alot...I have found only one thing that works. Go to your local meat locker and ask for the left over shank  bones. They don't splinter and keep them chewing for along time. Just call them a few days in advance...and if you're lucky...they're free!  Good Luck!
