In breeding a beagle. Is it okay to breed it with its family member? The breeder I purchased my female from says breeding with her brother or father is okay. Want to make sure of this because I don't want unhealthy dogs.

its wrong becouse im a vetrinarian and it can cause retardation or blindness and many other problem...ive done that before and i had to give the pups away because nobody wanted to by a dog with them kind of issues esspecially rabbit hunters like me.you need a smart and healthy dog to (drive)or chase the rabbits out of the bushes. so anyone who logs onto this site should not listen to its contents because everythine on this site is inncorrect.so believe me im a vetrinarian.

Actually, you're wrong. It's a shame they didn't teach you to spell vet tech in "vet teck" school. It is OK to breed to the same line to bring out specific traits, but not often and not too closely. Sire would be OK, liter mate would not.
