Yes, the Akita will make a mere joke of the malamute. The malamute may hold a desent fight but an akita is a fighting dog and knows his business. Few dogs like the pit, tosa, and canary dog can take an akita. Akitas are 1 or second class fighting dogs. Malamutes dont even rate. Need some more info on dog fighting halla at me. The Akita will definately win.

an akita has the strength and fighting instincts. they were bred by the samurai, for fighting in war,and bear hunting.
the malamute is has the strength however lacks the 'killer instinct' of an akita. it was bred as a working dog and enjoys the company of people and other dogs. akitas are naturally dominant over other dogs and dislikes people outside its family/pack. the fighting technique is similar to that of a cat, using its paws aswell as its bite to the throat.

the akitas of now arent what they were originally bred for. i have a boxer in new york thats fought with with an akita at a local dog run and my boxer which is smaller ripped the akita on more than one occasion. but im pretty sure an akita would take the malamute 7 out of 10 times due to its backround. but neither is a good fighter by todays standards.

I have a question- I am new to this board. You all are always talking about which dog is bigger and badder. -- However, Which dog can whoop azz and protect the family? I have children and Pits are out of the question....Big DOGS that when they walk can knock over my one (1) year old just because it's clumbsy --is out of the question. All your egos seem to want is a DOG FIGHT.or a dog that can whoop another dog.. WHY? I don't know--Cause you can't do it yourself.
Keep it real. Half of you don't own the dogs you are speaking of. You are only dreaming! And the people who say getting these dogs are easy---I live in KENTUCKY....not PERU-ARGENTINA-CUBA...etc. Hell I can't go to AFRICA and get a BEAR or LION -- so keep it real.
I only want a dog I don't have to worry about eating or hurting my kids. So I want to know is there a dog for me?

Hello everyone. This was a terrible discussion, dog fighting is illegal and immoral.

But I figure I can give you some info about my own Malamute. He is about 4 years old and weighs about 45 kg. He's been attacked several times by golden retrievers (once, two of them at the same time). But actually, it doesn't evolve to a real fight because the dog attacking my Malamute finds out in a hurry that he attacked the wrong dog. It figures, you just don't attack a Wolf.

But Golden Retrievers doesn't compare to akita, but a Rottweiler does. And I'll tell you what happened about a month ago as I was walking my Malamute. I was walking on the street at the other side of the mall, and outside of the mall there was tied this big black and brown Rottweiler barking at my dog. All of a sudden his leash broke, and he came at great speed towards us. I didn't know what to do, I thought the big rottweiler was going to kill my dog, but to at least give him a chance I let go of him.

Now what happened is that they met in the middle of the street, and a lot of people was watching because they were probably as sick in the head as the one posting this topic. But anyways my dog and the rottweiler crashed together in within a second the rottweiler was lying on his back under my strong dominant and still undefeated Malaumte. I called him back and the Rottweiler returned slowly with his tail between his legs, and his head almost touching the ground as he walked.
Then I called the cops.

I have talked to alot of Malamute owners and I've heard alot about how they ALWAYS end up as the winner, whether they get attacked by german shepperds or fightdogs..

to all you fools who have just read stuff on the internet here is the truth.
I own two akitas, they are not classified as japanese fighting dogs..They are indeed Japanese hunting dogs. it is only the mindless that tried to use them as fighting dogs. They are strong and they will defend their family. They are very dominant and must at all times be shown who the boss is. My dogs are very loving and only ever bark when strangers approach the house. They hunt small animals, they have killed my neighbours cats if they come into our yard. They can be trained to get along with cats from an early age, but mine were not. I have a full male akita 5 years old, and a desexed female akita 2 years old. one is more japanese akita, whereas the other is american breed akita. These dogs are dominant towards other dogs, and will fight if threatened. however they are not bred for fighting.
so wake up to yourselves you are simply reading crap off the internet.

The Akita has the edge over all fighting dogs. The physical feature's of Akita's
& pittbull are similar. The differnce are that Akitas are bigger, stonger, faster, and furrier.
Akita's have a differnt mind set then most tough breed's Pitbull are crazy, Akitas are not. They are more stable and in control of there emotions. They also tend to be
more pasient and protective of there family's.
When Akita's get into fights most of the time they wont start them but they will finsh
it with a matter of seconds. I've seen it with my own eye's. They fight like Grizzly Bares standing on their back legs swinging punches, biting, and wreseling.
The First time my Akita got into a fight was with a male rednose Pitbull. The pittbull was one of the toughest Pit's on the block and will experience in fighting. The Pitt ran up 2 my male Akita Growling and barking viciously. "Grizzly" however was not barking or showing any signs of aggresion
he was calm. Then Out of nowhere Grizzly threw a over hand right punch into the Pitbulls face knocking  the pitbull off ballance while the pitt was attemping to lunge at Grizzly'sface. Once the Pitt was off balance, Grizzly pounched on him with a couple bites. The fight was short lived because myself and the owner both had them on leashes, so we just yanked them away.
The second scruffle he got into was when I was jogging with him and a door opened and out charged a black Pittbull about 65 lb's  They hit each other's face like a "front end
collision." biting ferociouly. It seemed like it could be a toss up untill Grizzly slammed the Pit onto the pavement. The Pit was pinned under 2 huge paws. Withinn 15 seconds of actual fight. It was crazy to
see Grizzly change to sweat loveable dog
to a vicious killer. Chewing the to death. The important thing is that it wasnt just senseless fighting. Grizzly was justified
He was defending himself.

I have also herd a story envolving a Akita & Pittbull. The Pittbull was barking and growling at in Akita at family reunion.
The Owner of the pittbull didnt heed warning's, to the Akita's owner. He said that Oh husky dog is not going 2 do nothing. Then the Akita snapped on the Pittbull. Taking the Pitbull 2 the ground chewing and biting the dog up for about 30 minutes. The Pitbul was no pushover pit. Evenually the Pit died. I'm telling you there the best fighters.

I have an Akita (115 lbs) and he is dog aggressive. He will not attack all dogs, but he will fight any dominant dog.

In all honesty he is a good fighter, but he isn't a first class fighter like a game pit bull or Presa. He's been in a few scraps, but I keep him on the leash, so it prevents an all out fight to the death type of thing; the fights are usually 30 or 40 seconds. Since I have him on a leash it's a disadvantage to him because the leash gets in the way and when I pull it he stops fighting for a second even when the other dog is still fighting, but if I were to take the leash off, my Akita would not stop fighting, he would keep going until blood was shed. He recently fought a boxer to a tie, but again the leash disadvantaged him, and he wanted to keep fighting. I can say that the boxer did a good job because the boxer did not back down and most dogs do back down after the first 5 seconds.

My friend has a Malamute, and they are big and strong dogs, and they are dog aggressive. A fight between an Akita and a Malamute would be even for the first minute and than it would come down to which dog is more violent. They are closely matched in terms of size and strength.

One would think that an Akita would have an advantage due to it's background as a fighting dog, but I can see a Malamute beating an Akita, depending upon the individual dog. I'm give the edge to the Akita, if the fight lasted more than three minutes because I think that the Akita would fight longer, almost to the death.

If you want a really tough dog, than buy a Tosa and keep him physically fit. A Tosa can beat an Akita in a fight.

A Malamute is a good working dog, an Akita is a good hunting dog, and they are also both good show dogs. So don't waste your time, just buy a Tosa, and don't even worry about fighting, just keep him in shape and feed him well. The only bad thing about the Tosa is that he isn't a great guard dog, and he's not as beautiful as an Akita or Malamute, yet he can really kick ass in a dog fight.

One more thing that I forgot to mention, is that a dog who has been in a few fights will do better than a dog who has never fought before, so experience does become a factor if both dogs are matched in terms of size and instinct. A dog who has been in a few fights will not give up as quickly.

The real fighting dogs like Pit Bulls and Tosas are actually subjected to cruelty in order to make them more violent, for example, my Akita will respond to violence with violence, and not all dogs do that, but that's the difference in a fighting dog. Instead of backing down when faced with violence, they raise the level of violence, and that's a strange thing, but that is the reality. I do not try to bring the violence out in my Akita, however it most certainly is there, and so it's possible to make a real killer out of the dog, but than you could end up with a useless dog because the dog responds to everything with violence. Eventually that dog will have to be put down.

With any dog, that you want to be an aggressive dog, or basically just "not a wimp", you never begin to bring their aggression out when they are puppies, and when I say puppies, I mean the first 12 months. There is no such thing as teaching a puppy aggression, but I bet that a lot of young people don't know that, and they don't want their big dog to be a wimp, so they wrestle with their puppy. Well, even if the dog is a fighting breed, when they are a puppy, you just treat them very nice and gentle. The aggression will come out when they are older because it is natural. One day your 12 month old Akita will suddenly start to growl and fight other dogs, but for the first 12 months he will never fight, and that's fine, that's the way it works.

The Akita although once used as a pitfighter, is no longer a pitfighter, and neither is a Malamute. Both of these dogs can survive in the wilderness for short periods of time, so they are hunters and survivors, but you can't use them for dog fighting. You could maybe cross breed an Akita with a Tosa, and make a tougher Akita, but I don't see too many people trying to create gladiator dogs these days.

I have a Malamute and he was attacked by an Akita. Needless to say he took care of the Akita in quick fashion, beating down the Akita and sending him bleeding and running into some bushes. Also I haven't seen the Akita since then, the owners might of had to put him down, sadly. Malamutes are very strong and very few dogs can beat them.

No i don't think all you all know what your talking about malamutes is like a piece of bone to an Akita. Yeah we have like 9 Akita and we do breed i think i know my Akita pretty well if an Akita can take out a bear then i think that it sure can take out a Malamute so do some history about Akita and come back and change you answers about malamutes... i will tell you what one time Akita was sitting on the porch and a pit bull came running down the road my Akita got up and smashed into him, rolled him and was shaking him by his neck... so them who think pits and Rottweiler and good fighter i don't think so Akita will eat them for a snack so don't speak highly about pits or Rottweiler because they are a snack to an Akita.... Yeah Again remember that Akita are JAPANESE FIGHTING DOGS, AND THEY ALSO ARE KNOWN TO FIGHT BEARS.

We have a problem in Australia with feral pigs and politicians. If your Akita's can do 1/2 the damage you suggest they can, please send them over here. My malamute, (giant female...deceased)was a god given gorgeous creature from USA/Canada/Alaskan champs and honey she was the best. She didn't need to fight any Japanese dwarf to prove it.

Go Malamutes.

Malamutes are indeed very tough dogs, they are hardy, strong, and have good lungs. It also depends on the individual dogs, some dogs just have more heart than others. I still think the best fighter is an American Bulldog, I saw my friends fight a pit and we had to use a break stick just to get the AB off the pit, it was no contest.

pretty much identical to my malamute i have now, ive also owned a akita several years ago, i can tell you that the akita although a strong dog doesnet even have half the strength of a malamute and its fighting instinct has been bred out though many years of selective breeding. A malamute, such as the typical big ones above will never lose against any dog, my one weights 140lb'sand is 31" big it would destroy my old akita in seconds, but i would not want to see such nice dogs fight each other.

You can't really compare Rots to Akitas. Akitas are considerably better fighters...and your average Akita will take your average Malamute.

The Malamute, while a match for the Akita in terms of physicality, is just not game for a long fight and will likely bail once it realizes that it can't win easily. Actually, it's the smart thing to do. An Akita, on the other hand, would continue to fight a Tosa or Pit to its own demise. That 'gameness' is a form of stupidity, if you ask me...

I had the misfortune of seeing a large male Airedale terrier get into it with an Akita.   Man, the Akita was going to win, but it just couldn't quite pin that Airedale...it was ugly. The owners finally managed to break it up. Airedales will also fight an animal to their own death...

This is a bit of a ridiculous post, but I had to throw my 2 cents in anyway...

I owned a beautiful male Malamute. He passed away a few years ago. He weighed approx. 130-140lbs

Not aggressive at all but I can't recall meeting another dog that didn't immediately defer to him. A bit clumsy, however and had a habit of inadvertently knocking down my then toddler.

I have an Akita now, female, about 75lbs. She's *extremely* gentle. Will lick a cat and let a child yank on her ears or gouge her eyes and just take it. Another dog, however, is a totally different story. She is dominant. Period.

She's mostly friendly with other dogs, but if one tries to test her she will not yield until she's on top with the other dog baring it's belly.

As to which of my two dogs would have won in a fight... who cares! Not why I had them.

Bottom line: Speaking only from personal experience, I trusted my Malamute with other dogs but watched him around people.

My Akita is the opposite: I would leave my Akita to watch over in infant knowing that not only wouldn't she ever hurt a child, but would protect the child from getting into trouble or from anyone that wanted to cause the child harm. But I don't trust her to be around other dogs.

Both are/were beautiful, noble and dominant animals.

first of all this is the worst post I have ever seen anywhere. Malamutes are not bred to fight, they are work dogs, and sweet and gentle, if you train one to kill you should be in jail for dog abuse, I have one , I also have an akita, not a fighter either. Its not about the breed but how you raise them... Same on your stupid post and I hope you dont own any dogs you dont deserve them

Listen guys I have an 170 LBS akita. Hes usually friendly with people although he greatly dislike other dogs despite his training. He trys to fight them every chance he gets. We were walking down the street and my neighbor has a canary dog and a malamute my dog always gets along with the canary dog for some strange reason but hates the malamute. One day the owners of the malamute were walking the malamute without a leash and the malamute ran for me to bight me. It jump into my face and my akita caught his neck in mid-air and almost tore it apart but the owner came running to the malamute. Another insidint with my akita was with a canary dog the one that lives with the malamute. Both of us took our dogs to the local park. We let them go in the field and the were playing fairly well besides the occasional growl and bark when the canary bit my dogs tail. My akita destoyed the canary.  Any way that goes to prove that and akita can take a canary dog. BTW i had to pay the vet bills for the stupid canary dog.

Right Listen up People, Japanese Akita's are used for bear hunting and they can eat bears.  They have a good height and they are strong dogs.  I have one and the other day it buried a half pitbull and half staff.

A neighbor of mine saw me walking mu malamute and she was afraid because she saw a malamute kicking a Dobermanīs ass.I dont like dog fights and I dont care who will win just for fun I just care about my dog and apparently of what I read on here, the trainers think the malamute will win while the ones who think the opposite just canīt prove it.And if you didntīt know a do would fight more if he is with his owner because he wantīs to protect his owner.

This is a da question. The answer depends on da dog and not da breed. I've owned many akitas and one owned me, a small male [85 lb.] the sweetest tempered, kindest, most charismatic dog I.ve ever been around. He refused to fight unless neccessary, yet he once whipped 3 dogs at the same time, a 160 lb st. bernard, 100 lb. shepherd and a 50 lb. mutt. They'er all different.

the malamute rules!!  They love people, and they were often depended upon to protect their owners from polar bears and other such animals.  Hmmm...polar bear...akita... I think the malamute will dominate.  they rock.
