I have a 1990 Passat GL Automatic.
My question:  First it seems to be using alot of antireeze.  The light goes on and so then I add the mix of coolant.  In a day or so I then have to add more?!  But the catch is, is that is not in the oil and I have NO leaks on the ground??
Next question:  It has started smoking at different times.  I recently have added 1/2 a quart of oil and at that point it started smoking?  Is there a reasonable answer to my questions?  Thank you, Sincerely...

You may be having internal engine coolant loss, due to a blown head gasket or cracked engine block.
The leakage thus sends the coolant to your exhaust system: the smoke you observe at the tail pipe.
Make sure you trace from your radiator, hoses to water pump for wet spots.
