My 9 y/o rott/sheppard was recently diagnosed with ehrlichiosis. He's been on tetracycline (two tid) since Jan. My vet prescribed doxy approx. a week ago. however, the doxy makes him vomit and he is unable to keep any meds down. I suspect contracted the disease in April or May 03, but did not exhibit any s/s until january when he became listless, uninterested in food and lost weight. test results showed his platlet count to be @ 27, however he has not been bleeding out.  He has shown marked polyuria and polydipsia. My question to you is there any other treatment besides what I am already doing for him that might speed his recovery. He is still rather active and cheerful, but just not his usual self. Would you classify this as chronic ehrlichiosis and if so, can i expect a positive outcome? It seems as though he's showing no improvement whatsoever.
