Is it ok to breed a yellow and a chocolate labrador ? I am buying a puppy from a breeder who says the father was chocolate and the mother yellow. I have the hip score for the father, but not the mother.

YES, BUT YOU NEED TO SEE BOTH PARENTS BEFORE YOU BUY THE PUPPY. JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE BUYING A QUALITY PUP. AND MAKE SURE BOTH PARENTS ARE ENGLISH LABS, OR AMERICAN LABS. NOT ONE ENGLISH AND ONE AMARICAN. ALTHOUGH MIXING ENGLISH WITH AMERICAN IS OK FOR PET QUALITY PUPPIES, IT IS NOT OK IF YOU WANT A GOODLOOKING DOG FOR SHOW.ENGLISH LABS ARE SHORT AND STOCKY AND AMERICAN ARE TALL AND SLINDER.

I would not take a pup that was from yellow and chocolate parents. What you will get is yellow pups with pale pigment which is a disqualifying fault in the breed ring. The dam of the litter should have had hips x-rayed and if she wasn't then I would look elsewhere. She could pass on hips problems without knowing it.

This is false.  The color of the pups will be determined by the dams and the sires chromosomes.  We just whelped a litter from a yellow female and a chocolate male and we have 5 blacks.
