The average breeding period would be somewhere between the first and second week. However some dogs aren't even in heat that long while others aren't ready to breed by then. You see, there are two stages in heat. Going into(while they're showing signs but won't breed yet) and in heat( breeding time)  The first can last from 1-21 days while the second 1-17. So now you have a range of less than a week to over a month of being in heat. Because of this, the question you asked is hard to answer. You'll just have to wait and let your dog tell you her timing. The best plan, if you don't own the male and don't want to drive your dog to his place everyday, is to put the male in with her from the time she starts to the time she stops showing signs of heat. That way you can be sure you had her with a male at the right time.
I'm sorry that it's so complicated! It drives me crazy too but welcome to the wonderful world of breeding! :) Good luck stanishas@aol.com

I know this is old but never just put the 2 dogs together and leave them alone as this is asking for trouble, Especially if she is not ready to allow the male to mate her.

A true breeder will have everything planned out and a simple test can be done to determine the date on when she is likely to ovulate.

So please do not ever just put them together.
My guide i follow with my girls is days 10-12-14.
If she does not take on the first attempt wait 48hours and try again.
She will indicate her time of readiness
