Bulldogs are not cheap, partially due to the breeding process. Artificial insemination, c-sections, etc., are costly and time consuming procedures. The cost may also deter the inexperienced bulldog owner from purchasing a pup. I have spent the last six months researching the breed, and I have decided to get one. I strongly suggest educating yourself in the breed as they may be the cutest thing you've ever seen, but I've never heard of a more difficult breed to take care of. I'm pleased to say that my new bundle of joy (and money) will be home next weekend. Good luck!

What do you mean by a "cheap" bulldog? If you're not willing to spend almost $2K and still want one (which I highly recommend--I would never own any other breed) you should check out bulldog rescue, which places unwanted bulldogs into good homes. Just type in "bulldog rescue" in google and you should easily find the service.

DO not buy a bulldog unless you know how to care for them. They require daily care( face cleaning etc) and need to be with you. THey are not a dog you put endlessly alone or in a crate. They are the most amazing dogs when they have good parenting. But if not trained and loved they are stubborn, hard to house train and willful.

You might consider an english bulldog american staffordshire mix. Might be difficult to find, but they're out there. We have one that's really great, looks bully, didn't cost a lot and doesn't have the health issues some of the pure bullies have.
Good luck!!!

hey i have a bull dog and love it shes scared of the vacuum and attacks it. its the funniest thing. she doesnt like loud things or she gets scared. Bull dogs are defiantly my favorite breed. They werent hard to train at all it took almost a year though to train it to go to the bathroom out side. we feed our dog 9 am in the morning let it out. then we let it out around 2 again and then we feed the dog a snack around 3. then we feed it around 5 - 6 and let it out again to go to the bathroom.

There is no such thing as a "cheap" bulldog. I currently have a 14 week English Bull Dog. He has 15 generations of Champions in his pedigree. He cost me the "cheap" sum of $2500(US). Don't go for cheap - go for quality as this breed has inherent health problems, most common would be what is referred to as "cherry eye". Bullies need constant companionship. This is easy for my family we have 5 children and 3 cats! Research the breed before buying, they require a lot of care and the average life span is only about 8 - 10 years. They are loyal to a fault and a great dog to own - if you know what you are doing. Hope this helps!

I'd like a bulldog too, and am ready to care for a dog.
But ya know what turns people off? When breeders and industry fanatics warn against all sorts of possible problems and steadfastly maintain a multi-thousand-dollar dog is the only dog you should get, and you must be willing to be brow-beaten by every dog expert in the world (because you're a stoopid purrson if you show interest in a particular breed).
If one person TRULY must spend $2200 on a pup to be sure of the proper English bulldog, then it's not worth it. And don't try and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I know what it means to have a lifelong relationship with a good loyal mutt. And I value it more than buying into a designer dog industry run by frumpy homos and frigid ice queens in awful clothes and schoolmarm pleated skirts.
I betcha you can find a great fun bulldog from a good line for a lot less than $2000. Just make friends with a couple owners and breeders and emphasize you want a healthy happy dog, not one that wins shows or has correct stance. Rescue is a great idea, because you're getting great housetrained loving dogs that some idiot already paid buku bucks for and got mad when Lord Higginbotham ate his Coach chair. Ain't depreciation great?

I have a female and I can say i did get her at a very good price $700.But I can also say that yes they are dogs you have to train your self on having. every day I learn something new about her.Im currently in the prosses of breeding her and I must say Im having a very hard time. But I love her and can say she is worth much more than I payed for her. But if your thinking of buying one you really need to read up on them find out all you can and then make that decision dont do it just because they are cute. Remember a neglected bulldog well eat your house out from under you literally.

Aloha,
I own a 10 month old bully female. I paid top dollar for her. I live on Maui and bulldogs are rare here. She is quite the little lady. I have had health problems with her since day one. Yesterday she had a umbilical hernia removed. She is doing really well. About two months ago when we did routine blood tests we found her platelets and immune system down. She went on medication right away and is a ok. I do periodic blood checks to make sure everything is ok. I would not trade her for anything in the world. I own a 46 foot sail boat she has her life jacket and she loves to go sailing with us.

You guys are stupid, 30 to 40 for a champ baby is outrageous, I have pups for sale now and they are champ sired @ 1800.00 which is a good deal. I would dare someone to come to me asking for a deal.. this is simple people if you can not afford the dog you wouldnt be able to afford the vet bills!!! get a pound dog they are loyal and it is better to give the gift of life to something that has had a hard life to begin with.. if ya want something cheap you yourself are cheap..

I got a bulldog from a breeder in South Africa absolutely free. I will not trade her for anything. People tend to think they need to buy the best bulldog if you do not want t breed with it and only want it as a house-friend why. All breeds can get sick all breeds can have problems even the best of them but the biggest thing that people do not take into account is that maybe some of us buy a dog because of companionship and not to make money!!!

I have a 7 month old English bulldog. I paid 1600 dollars for him. Which I felt was a lot, but hey I'm also a college student. I bought him from a breeder, he's from a line of champions. AKC registered. But if you want a cheaper dog, look at a rescue shelter. They are the most amazing dog ever, I love my baby Brutus. He's my kid, I couldn't picture not having him. But if you are wanting a bulldog. RESEARCH FIRST! I researched for about 6 months before I bought him. They are expensive and high maintenance. Be prepared to put a lot of time in. Like cleaning their folds... And be prepared to drop everything and give them attention. Mine feels that I need to hold him every chance he gets. Only problem is... he's not so little anymore. Bulldogs are an awesome breed to own. But be prepared to spend a lot in vet bills, spend a lot of time taking care of their needs and a whole lot of time giving them a lot of lovin! After that, you will never want another dog. If you want to find one cheap, check a rescue shelter. If not then save some money up. I don't agree with everyone saying you have to spend over 2,000 for a great bulldog. I got one for 1600. They are going to have health problems no matter what. That's the breed. When I researched I prayed that my soon to be bully wouldn't get any of that and especially not cherry eye. But he got that by the time he was 5 months old. It's common and nothing you can do about it. They are a lot of work, but you wont regret it.

We got a new bulldog. Everythings great. She is such a comedian and we laugh at her all day even when she passes gas. However the smell stays around longer than it is funny and by us laughing at her she actually tries to fart more. It just feels wrong to get onto her when we laugh at her but we don't know how to make her stop. We have changed her diet trying to control it and for a bit it works , but then, its like the dog has been trained to pass gas at the most inappropriate times. How else can we make her stop

Anyone that wants to buy an English Bulldog for "cheap" doesn't sound like someone that is willing to pay for the vet bills that come along with a "cheap" English Bulldog. Also, if you educated yourself about the breed you'd find that cheap bully's usually come from Russian imports or backyard breeders. Most of these "cheap" bulldogs come with guaranteed health problems from birth. So if you want an English Bulldog, save up your money and do the ethical thing by purchasing one from a REPUTABLE breeder. Better yet adopt one from a rescue. There's a great site called buddiesthrubullies.com

We just rescued a female bulldog for 600.00. I say rescued because her poor feet and toes curl, her back is somewhat swayed and she hardly got to come inside. Our male bulldog is 10 years old and really loves her. She is wonderful. (He is fixed) BULLDOGS ROCK

My advice is that all dogs have the same vet bills and feed bills. However, buying an expensive dog does not mean it's quality. Don't buy from pet stores or backyard breeders (they advertise in the newspapers). They charge insurmountable rates, most do no genetic health testing, poor socialization etc. You end up spending $10,000 in surgery for a $800 dog that got hip displasia. Just because the parent's don't have it doesn't mean it can't skip generations. Some are carriers and don't physically show it. But if 2 carriers come together chances are some of the pups will have it.
A good breeder will have had genetic health tests done on both sides of their line such as OFA, CERF. If they don't know what these mean then you have run into the backyard breeder looking for a quick buck.
You wouldn't buy a car just because it looks pretty without making sure it runs and is checked out by a mechanic. Why would you buy a dog that you will love for years and years that way? Sure you might get a fine car or it might fall apart after a couple of years.
Papers mean nothing either in terms of quality. Backyard Breeders may have AKC papers but it's the same as buying a Chevy in a junkyard or a brand new Lexus. Both are issued papers at the time of sale. However a good breeder will have papers on their dogs anyway.
Go to www.akc.com and find the bulldog parent club. Research the breed and talk to possible breeders the club recommends. You'll never regret it. I did that and I'm watching dogs that people thought they got a great deal on from the newspaper ($250) pay for a hip surgery that cost them $5,000 and $2,000 to have a liver shunt put in. I paid $800 from a reputable breeder and have had no problems. So who got the better deal in the end?

Well I got a solid white wonderful English Bully for $50.00 from my local shelter.....there is nothing wrong w/ her, but she couldnt breed so her heartless owner had no use for her, and was going to put her down. Thank goodness the dumb lady didnt, she is wonderful. It is so ridicuous to pay $3000. for animals when so many die everyday. That you can get for almost nothing.

This makes me sick. If the world didn't have assholes in it like the people who support the breeding process, puppy mills, and wholesale markets by buying purebred bulldogs for outlandish prices, we wouldn't have this problem. It's a god-damned dog, people. Go to an animal shelter and get a dog that needs a home. Don't support breeders buy lining their pockets with your money. It's like putting a price on a child. Get a shelter dog!!!!! (You can find purebred bulldogs there too -- except they're usually used and abused by the breeding system...by the jerks that make money by breeding these sweet dogs, I know cause I have one and she's totally emotionally wrecked from some puppy mill jackoff in Iowa) Go shelter dogs or go home.

I bought an olde english bulldog and now I am having to move and cannot keep him. I really need to sell him and fast. He comes from a register family and I have the paper to register him just have not since I have to sell him, you can do that. He was born on 11-26-05 and has been all cleared by the vets and already wormed and vaccinated. He is almost housebroke. Was doing excellent and then the weather turned cold and rainy and he did not like going out then. You just have to keep them on schedules eating and take them out and they do great. He is brindle color with a black mask. I live in Texas so please call or email if interested, 254-420-3902 or rknovian@aol.com.Im only asking 1000.00 OBO

I just lost my bulldog due to a very serious condition called D.I.C. Basically he had thrown a blood clot into his spleen, and with many blood transfusions/platelet transfusions, he made it through that surgery, but 3 months down the road he had thrown another on into his liver, and you cant live without a liver. Unfortunately we had to put him down, because with him just walking and breathing was causing him to bleed internally. It was the hardest thing we ever had to do. He had just turned two! We spent well over $6,000 on all the emergency fees and surgeries, etc. And we are still paying for it, But he was so well worth it.
Rest in Peace "Mack"

please please people do your research before you purchase any dog let alone a bulldog!!!!!!! go to rescues first then if you cant find what your looking for go to a breeder. i had an English bulldog i rescued and paid $500 for him but what i spent in medical bills for his mange i could have gone to a breeder and got one that might not have had any health problems or very well could have. also if you go to a breeder make sure there in your state or you can travel to see the puppies. there are a lot of scammers out there so buyer beware!!!! also know the difference between a good reputable breeder and a "puppy" mill!!!! beware of puppyfinder.com alot of scammmers!!!! also if you feel you can not or will not pay at least $1500 usd for a bulldog then you should look at another breed. a bulldog puppy can easily cost that in its first year!!!!!! weather you purchased from a good breeder or not. remember health defects are not avoidable just preventable with good breeding but it sometimes happens even with the best bulldog breeding!!! so please take in consideration what you are willing to spend on a puppy for the rest of its life. for the first year you can expect to spend a minimum of $600 for shots and vacs. plus food toys crates ect. also i have another bulldog so if you are interested in learning about the breed and health defects ect please email me at OOyousuckmore00@aol.com. i also worked in a vets office so i can give you some ideas of what it will cost for the upkeep of your bulldog puppy. thank you and good luck

It took me a long time to research the bulldog breed and make sure that this breed of dog was right for my lifestyle and family. Talk with your vet, and plenty of breeders before making your mind up. If the breeder is on the up and up they will be more than happy to speak with you. In speaking with my vet and doing the research it is better to spend the money up front than to spend even more money later for health problems. The AVERAGE range for quality and REASSURANCE is 1500-2300. You can find cheaper but buyer beware. You can also find way more expensive. This is a wonderful breed so please think carefully about getting one before you actually do.
