We recently purchased a 3-year old beagle from a rescue organization. While he is very mild mannered, is it not suggested that he ever run free in say, a dog park? Must he always be leashed when we are outside?

Katy,
I cant tell you because I don't know your dog but i would not, because they go where their nose takes them. If you have a fenced in yard or take them where there is a fenced in yard then you should let him loose but if can trust him then you can let him loose but keep a close eye on him. And if he starts going where you don't want him then call him back and give him his favorite treat (they love food and will do anything for it)if you take them to a dog park make sure he has all his shots because dog parks spread lots of diseases. But like I said before, it all depends on your dog, and where you live. If you can take him to a field that would be good too. Just make sure that you can trust him to come back when you tell him to.

What I know about beagles is when they find a trail they stick to it follow it wherever it leads them. I have never owned one but I have heard about them. They are hounds who are bred to sniff out a trail and stick too it!!!
