The Engine check light comes on constantly .The dealer told me not to worry about it over the weekend but have any of you also experienced this problem ?

The truck has now gone in to the dealer to be checked and I have only done 2200 Miles.

I also own a 2003 Tundra with the same problem. I've been told by the dealer that failure to tighten the gas cap can cause the check engine light to come on. It appears that low pressure in the fuel system is sensed as a problem. However, it just happened to me for the second time and I am positive I properly tightened the cap.
I will be contacting the dealer soon!

i don't own a tundra or a corolla, but i did have the same problem with my civic. my dealer told me that newer model cars, especially imports are coming out with censors that give you a check engine light when it's time to change the oil. i would have to change my oil then take it to the dealer to get the light turned off.

I found out what happened to car now. As same as Jacob Gregory said. I took my car to my dealer. They checked out that my car had small leak, and they did pressure tested for my car. The final answer is the gas cap leaking.

to all those who have check engine light...trucks check oil ..you can reset the light but not for sure..(HONDA'S TAKE OUT THE BATTERY BACK-UP FUSE for 10 seconds ..it is under the hood in the fuse panel);but most commonly check engine light is due to a vacum leak...HONDA..try the o2 sensor

My 2003 Tundra had the check engine light come on twice during the first 5000 miles.  Took it to the dealer both times.  Second time they replaced the fuel filler spout and the gas cap.  Said that there was an air leak somewhere along there.  No problems since this was done.  Runs like a champ.

I have a 2000 Tundra with roughly 40,000 miles. Both my my brake light and check engine light came on within a month of each other. Brake light was due to the fluid being too low even though it did not look it. Just add some new fluid and the light went out. I still have the check engine light on and I hate to go to the dealer to get ripped off! I have now heard that this light might be caused by one or two oxygen sensors going bad, dirty oil, or a leaking gas cap. Where should I start? I do not drive the truck much so I figure I have some time to fix it. If anybody has some great ideas, please let me know.

Thanks

Tundra check engine light is usually an oxygen sensor problem.  Bad heaters in the oxygen sensors caused a light but engine still runs good.

There was a recall on the 2003 toyota tundras Gas caps, what they were saying about the gas cap leaking is true. Just take it in to the dealarship and have it replaced free of charge, simple solution.

My check engine light comes too. But mine has to do with Mass Air Sensor meter. It is in the air box on stock models, or mounted on the intake tube for all you K&N FIPK users. The MAS gets dirty and does not function properly. Some times you need to take it out and spray it with contact cleaner to get the debrit out. Talking about dealer rip offs...They wanted to charge me $75.00 just to tell me what the light means not fixing the problem. Then...They want $210.00 to replace the MAS. No dice, guys..I just took it home and cleaned it and wella! it works and the light is now out.Don't get ripped off. I HIGHLY reccomend the K&N FIPK kit for the tundra. SBaumgartner@dc.rr.com

Erich, Toyota is extending the warranty on year 2000-2002 Tundras oxy sensors to 7 years or 90,000 miles. They are having a real problem with them.

Thanks for the information about Toyota's extended warranty on the oxygen sensors. I received my letter from Toyota about 1 or 2 weeks ago (very happy about that, the EPA probably pressured Toyota into this one). Now I got to get Toyota to fix it without telling me it is something else and wanting to charge me some outrageous amount. I spoke to a technician at my local Toyota garage regarding the problem and the new warranty and he stated that my light could be on because of many reasons... If when they check it out and it is not the oxygen sensor, I will be hit for $80 for the diagnosis (I love dealerships!!!!!!!!). My plan is to head to Autozone for the free diagnosis and then head to Toyota Dealership if it is the oxygen sensors. If anybody has a better plan, please post. Thanks again everyone for all the information!

I just tried the suggestion above to remove the battery fuse under the hood for 10 seconds to reset the Check Engine Light on a 2003 Honda Civic - Worked like a charm - thanks - you'll need a screw driver to remove the fuse and then put it back on!  THANKS for the info!

I recently bought a used 98 corolla, 80000 miles on it. The check engine light is on and when got it checked they said it is because of the oxygen sensor. I am wondering if the engine gets affected because of this. can I wait for some time before I get it fixed. I found that it costs around $400 to get it fixed.
Please tell me if I can wait for while and then get it fixed.

I know it's been almost a year since the original post but I took my 2003 Tundra in yesterday because the check engine light came on. The owner's manual said it could be a loose cap, but it was definitely not the cap. The next step was to take it to the dealership.

At first they thought it was the oxygen sensor but it turned out to be the filler neck. It seems that Toyota redesigned the filler neck and the redesign caused problems. The original neck actually works fine but something breaks down that causes a false reading of low pressure in the gas tank, thus the check engine light.

Another case of "it ain't broke but we'll design a new one so we can charge people more"? I doubt that was their real motive but it does make me wonder why they redesigned it.

The check engine light came on twice during the first 5,000 miles of my 2003 Tundra. The first time the service department at the dealership said it was a faulty gas cap and replaced it. The second time they replaced the fuel filler spout and the gas cap. They said there was a warranty advisory, not a recall, out about the fuel filler spout.

The fuel filler spout replacement solved the problem. My truck runs great.

I checked the oil, tires, every fluid, finally to get the light off, we disconnected the terminal of the battery for 1 min. then reconnected it,  the ck engine light went off...if anything "bad" happens we will post again.

On Toyota Camry's and probably other Toyota's too you reset the check engine 'light by disconnecting the battery terminal (either one) , count slowly to ten, then put it back on.

I have a 2002 Camry that has been in for check engine light at least 5 times in the past 2 yrs. They said it was the gas cap the first time, ox sensor 1 time, MAP sensor 1 time, and reset the computer last time. I have spent over $3000 for these parts/labor and still the check engine light has come on again. I get charged $200 to hook up to the computer and they say they are the only ones that can reset the light. What can this be or should I call the lemon law on them?

Hi I have a 2003 Corolla.  I changed the horn to a louder one and it was working fine until two days ago when all of a sudden it's not working.  I checked the fuse box but was surprise to find that there is no fuse in the slot for "car horn". My questions are:

1. Do I need to put a fuse in there?
2. How do I determine how many voltage is feeding into the horn?

Many thanks.

I also have a 95 cavalier, and the engine light comes on sometimes and stays off other times. When I'm making a long trip it's usually not a problem. It comes on more often in the morning than in the evening, why would that be? email me any answers at xcrund2@yahoo.com. I really don't want to pay $75 to find out nothing is wrong with my engine, or to find out it will cost another $1000 to fix it, in which case I'll just get a new car.

I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra, V-8 truck and my check engine light came on at 35K miles. I took it in to the local Toyota Dealer and they informed me that it was a result of a defective filler neck hose assembly and is consider as part of the Emisson Control System. Researching the internet, I found that there are a lot of 2003 Toyota Tundra owners that have experience the same problem. The Toyota Dealer check with my extended vehicle contract, Warrantech Automotive, Inc and they informed me that in the exclusion section. It indicated that the filler neck in not covered. I checked with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website and they have been complaints filed as well. But, according to the Toyota Dealership, someone would have to loose their lives or an investigation initiated with the Toyota Service Manager to start the process for a recall. I choose the latter. I figure if a lot of 2003 Tundra owners start the process at their locations. Maybe Toyota Motors will start to listen. I hate to bring my truck in every 35k miles to have this part changed at a cost of $200.00 plus.

I like what I have read about others who have check engine light come on in their 2003 corolla.  I went to autozone and they said it was the gas cap.  I've tightened it of course and put gas in the tank to fill it up, still on.  I read previously where there was gas filler tube that was being recalled, but not on the 2003 corolla.  Now what?

I have a 2003 RAVA4.  I use synthetic oil in it when I get my regular oil change.  Last week I was driving to the store and my check engine light and the oil light came on.  I got an oil change around two months ago.  I got very alarmed.  I went back to my home and put more oil in the engine.  I then went to the store now I am hearing a sound that sounds like the car is a bomb. I took it to the dealer.  The mechanics says I have sludge.  I can not understand this because I use synthetic oil.  Toyota dealer want me to purchase a new engine with labor it will cost me 8,000.00.  I have 39,000 miles. Should the dealer fix this for me because my engine is still under warranty?

The following information was provided by my Toyot dealer without charge:

1999 Camry Check Engine Light indicates the gas cap is not sealing the gas tank and preventing the gas tank from pulling a vacumn. The engine will not be damaged, but you fuel system will not operate at peak performance.

1. After filling the gas tank, tighten the gas cap until you hear a racheting sound.

2. If the car is several years old, purchase a new gas cap from a Toyota dealer.

3. You may have to drive the vehicle 100 miles before the light will go out.

Honda light - hold in trip mileage reset button while starting your engine.  Continue to hold in button until the various instrument lights go through their startup cycle (when you start your car all of the lights turn on to let you know they are working and then turn off).  Usually takes about 10 seconds to clear the light in question.  Believe it is set to go off every 7500 miles for an oil change.

we have 2003 tundra 25,000 miles, check engine light just came on. Nothing seems to be wrong with it, it sounds ok, it runs ok.
we even changed the oil and the light is still on.  took the battery cable off and when i put it back on, the light went off and was off for about 50miles and it is back on now.  Warranty doesnt seem to mean anything to a toyota dealer around s.e.missouri.

I have a 2001 Corolla Check engine light comes on I drive to dealer, an O2 sensor was replaced, before I got home 70 miles, the light comes back on, the dealer now says it is the mass air flow sensor, but will not give me adjustment for o2 sensor. Guys at work told me, that the dealers make a mint off of replacing sensors. The import dealers are the worst.
