I have a golf III VR6 1993 full automatic AAA engine four doors.
The car used to run on 95 fuel unleaded. When i brought the car to my own home. I have to use leaded fuel with lower octane of 83-87 rating. The car start to overheat. I changed the water pump clean the radiator, and i removed the thermostat. and the car still over heat in the city. when i drive the car on the hi way the car will not overheat. The coolent indictors always about  95-100 C.IF i trun the A/C on the car temp will stay at 100c all the time.
I took the car to VW agent in Yemen and he said they can not adjust the timing

thermostat's you need to change

it also could be your oil cooler isn't working sufficiently, its a cheap fix. Located next to the oil filter. Get a VAG check done, see what errors come up.

hey .. ive got the same car .. and same problem.. i live in the UAE .. here the deal .. i talked to this friend of mines .. and he is like its a german specs car so it heats up since it cant take the heat over here. but you can set the computer to gulf specs but u need to find someone who can do it. lucky for me . he's doing it!
